Geauga Arts is Seeking Board Members

Board Meeting - January 21, 2016

The Geauga Council for Arts & Culture Board is composed of individuals with experience in non-profit and for-profit organizations including expertise in event planning, leadership, marketing and research.  Many of our board members are also artists, musicians and representatives of organizations that support art in our community. 

We’re pleased to introduce our current board:

Madelon Horvath has served as President for four years.  She is retired from Chardon High School where she taught English and coached drama for thirty years. She has a Bachelor's degree in English and Speech from Kent State University and a Master's in Theatre Arts from Roosevelt University in Chicago.  She is currently a member of the Chardon School Board and has been working to build GCAC’s newest big event, the Arts Jam – to be held for the third year in June.

Mindy Baierl is a 7 year member of our board. She has lived in Geauga County for over 15 years with her family. Although not an artist, she strongly believes that arts are vital to the physical and economic health of individuals and communities. She earned her Bachelor Degree from Smith Colleg and her MBA from Carnegie Mellon University. Mindy is currently an Executive Director at Case Western Reserve University focused on successfully growing engineering graduate degree programs.

Andrew Bushman is our Treasurer and a 5 year member of our board.  He is a life long resident of Geauga County and very active in his community.  Andy is employed by Progressive Insurance and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance and Management from Walsh University.  He is a member of Leadership Geauga and Vice Chairman of Munson Township Trustees.  Andy has been instrumental in organizing our finances and establishing investments. 

Jennifer_EmchThis is Jennifer Emch's first year on the GCAC Board. She is a lifelong resident of Geauga County and the owner of Ubuntu Wellness LLC, providing holistic healthservices to the community. She is also a Clinical Supervisor at Family Pride of Northeast Ohio, Inc, a non-profit mental health agency, providing counseling and case management services to residents of Geauga, Lake and Ashtabula Counties. Jen has always had a passion for the arts, receiving her undergraduate degree in Dance before obtaining her Master's in Counseling from Cleveland State University. She wants to ensure Geauga County's story and history are preserved through the beauty of creative expression and is grateful to be connected to the GCAC.

David FullerDavid W. Fuller holds a Master of Music Degree in Applied Voice from the Boston Conservatory of Music. He is currently the Coordinator of Liturgical Music for the Church of St Anselm and the Director of Music for the Fairmount Center for the Arts. He was a finalist in the New England Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions and appeared as an apprentice artist with the Santa Fe Opera Co. and the Opera Company of Boston. David is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the American Guild of Musical Artists. He serves on the " Singing Angels " Arts Advisory Board. He is looking forward to helping to promote the arts in Geauga County. Betty Koelliker, A founding member of our board, is a multi talented artist.  Betty  paints, sculpts, and does paper cutting.  She has lived in Geauga county for over 40 years and is a graduate of the Frances Payne Bolton Western Reserve University school of Nursing.  She is an active member of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Guild of Nature Artists and Creative Artists.  Betty is champion and coordinator of our Art in the Mart program featuring art exhibits at the Geauga Y and New York Deli.

Beverle Krueger – aka Noah’s Child has been a board member for the past four and a half years.  She lives and paints at Someday Station.  Bev is very active in the arts community:  teaching, showing, demonstrating, and doing commissioned work.  “Art gets me up in the morning and puts me to bed at night.”  She keeps our “Art in the Mart” up and running.

Ralph Neumeister is a founding member of our board and a talented blacksmith.  He is a resident of Geauga county.  He is focused on helping families and children appreciate arts and culture through hands-on activities.  His tin punch and rope making have been a favorite of families visiting our tent at the Chardon Art Show and other promotional events.

Paul Ovark is new to G.C.A.C. this year. He moved from Cleveland to Chardon with his family at the age of 6. He attended St. Mary Grade School and graduated from Chardon High School. While there he was involved in all the school plays and musicals by being on light crew, stage crew and in a few small acting parts. He is also a member of the Thespians. In his younger years he was involved in 4-H with his dog Heidi and was a member of the Boy Scouts. He is employed at Geauga Transit and is back up Water Aerobics Instructor at the YMCA in Chardon.

Sara Peltier has been a board member for 7 years.  She is a talented pianist, organist and vocalist active in her church vocal and hand bell choirs.   She is a retired music teacher who earned her undergraduate music education degree from King’s College and her graduate, education certificate from University of Delaware.  She and her husband, a retired history professor, have written and performed programs designed to educate school students on the Revolutionary and Civil wars. Their programs feature popular music from each era. Sara is an active member of PEO’s social and music committees.  PEO is a women’s sorority raising funds for women’s education.

Teresa Runion is a founding member of our board. She is the Special Events Coordinator for Geauga Park District and has worked for the organization for 26 years. She enjoys planning arts & culture related exhibits, workshops and events and connecting her love of nature and the arts. Teresa is an advocate for the local arts scene and enjoys working with all of the creative people that she meets in her journey through life. She enjoys restoring and repurposing furniture and other home décor items and resides with her husband and two children in Troy Township.

Lori Weber is the Marketing Manager at the Geauga County Public Library and has served on the GCAC board since 2013. She has degrees in creative writing and music, and plays keyboards in two northeast Ohio bands (Crooked House and King Street). Lori believes literature, poetry, music, theater and art are essential ingredients in a balanced, happy life. She is married with four children, all of whom are encouraged to explore the arts. She has spent the majority of her life in Geauga County and currently resides in Bainbridge.
